« A quiet riad – restful after a day in the medina »
The warm welcome offered by the staff made us feel immediately at home, with mint tea, a cooling fan and a brief induction to the riad and to the medina. Our standard room was upgraded to a better one and it was spacious with good air-conditioning and a decent bathroom. House keeping and cleanliness was fantastic. There was a good choice for breakfast and tea and drinks were a reasonable price. We found it best to go out around 8.30/9.00 am, come back for a siesta around 2.00-4.30 to escape the main heat of the day (up to 38 degrees a few days ago), and then go out again for the evening. We used the roof terrace to relax later in the evening.
We went on two trips organised though the riad: one to Essaouira on the coast and one to the Ourika Valley. Both were great days out and it was nice to get away from the constant hustle of Marrakech.
The riad is a medium walk to the main square, but one that was manageable and it suited us to be at a little distance from the noise of the square.
I would recommend this riad to anyone looking for a peaceful, friendly place to stay. The staff were always on hand to ask for advice. Top tip: go to visit the artisan centre in the Rue de la Kasbah, just up from the riad. You can find everything you might want to buy in the souk later – the bonus is that here the prices are fixed and marked so you can see what you should be aiming for when bartering in the souks later on.

    « Wonderful Riad & Staff »
This Riad is pretty, a great location and staff…they have a beautiful mini jacuzzi too in one of their lounge areas and also a roof top so airy in the evenings. It is close to the square, the souk, the jewish quarter, the El Bahia palace, the Tombs, taxi park and so many attractions and restaurants (all a walkable distance)…Hassan the caretaker was ever helpful and always willing to assist…he had answers to everything! Abdul was also great and very friendly. We were an all ladies group and Hassan helped us book our appointments at the hamam (the best spa in Marrakech called Les Bains de Marrakech) which is also a 5 minutes walk away. The only down side is not with the Riad but with some young boys who tend to make obscene comments sometimes when we walked in/out of the street…they are harmless because they are locals i guess but it was annoying…I don’t know if this is what they do to tourists in general. All in all I will stay here again.

« A Beautiful Traditional Riad in Marrakech »

This Riad is tucked away in the Kasbah region of Marrakech. Its a good 20 minute walk to the Medina, but most places are a walk in Marrakech. I cannot rate this highly enough for the friendly welcome and assistance provided to us. Hassan the manager and his staff are superb and are duly proud of what they do. They booked the taxi from the airport for me, which was a good move as we arrived late and you are taken to the door, which is quite tucked away and probably hard to find at night. Also we knew what the payment would be. This also saves you time changing money at the Airport as you can just pay the hotel at some stage. They also provided a meal for us, as you wouldn’t really want to go out late at night to try and find food. This was really helpful.

There kindness just kept coming in many requests we made, from booking a Hammas etc etc

The Riad is a lovely retreat from the outside world, with a an exceptional terrace, albeit it was so hot in June we couldnt sit up there for any extended period, but it is lovely and you can see the mountains. Breakfast is simple but perfect and they will even serve you on the terrace.

The meal options are very enjoyable too, worth having. The area in which its sited is the Kasbah and we found every one very friendly and happy to engage, there’s a small prayer room at the corner of the road and we would respect there time there, obviously and got to know a few locals at prayer time. We were there during Ramadan, which can be trying for local people not to drink or eat when its very hot, please respect this. However they suddenly come more alive when they can eat at sunset, and its a delight to see them at this stage.

If you’re going to Marrakech then seriously consider this Riad, very much a local and traditional experience with very friendly people.

    « Traumhafter Urlaub !!! »

    « Highly recommended! »

Walking into the Riad from the busy loud medina was a pleasant surprise as you wouldn’t expect something as beautiful and calm as the Riad from outside the door. When we arrived, we were greeted beautifully with a friendly smile, moroccan tea and some moroccan cakes. This little gesture made our arrival very pleasant. We also pre-ordered our dinner which was nice to have it sorted on arrival. The meals at the Riad were excellent! Our first night we enjoyed a Tagine with beef, orange and almonds which was to die for! We found the staff to be very friendly, helpful, polite and very professional. The room was standard but clean and the location was close to all the sites to visit in Marrakech. Great stay!

Unlike many Riads in the twisty-narrow streets of Marrakech, Riad Jonan is easy to find, and close to many sights in the Medina. Best of all, however, is their service. They helped us get to places both inside and outside the wall, and connected us to a very good driving service that took us on 3 different, excellent trips. They also serve a very nice breakfast and were kind enough to carry it up to the rooftop tables for us each day. I don’t think it would be a great place for young active children, but it would be comfortable for a small family with teenagers who enjoy relaxing. (The « pool » is not a swimming pool, but rather hot-tub size.)
You can’t go wrong if you choose Riad Jonan as they will make sure your trip to Marrakech is excellent. We plan to return!

What a great experience staying at Riad Jonan. Hasan was an outstanding Manager, very helpful and knowledgable. No request was too much. Excellent location in the Medina, nice quiet area but still close enough to all the action. Tours organised were fantastic both to Ourika Valley and Essouira, both highly recommended. Breakfast to start the day off was lovely, rooms clean and spacious, wifi available throughout. Highly recommend Riad Jonan to any visitors, you won’t be disappointed.

Great place to stay if you are looking for a tranquility after roaming around Souk and chaotic Jemaa el Fna square. We were greeted by Abdou with mint tea and he mapped out our 3 days activities in Marrakesh with excellent recommendations. All staffs at Riad Jonan are so nice and friendly and made sure we are comfortable. If you want to learn about Berber/Moroccan history, Hassan is your guy! We will stay at Riad Jonan if we return to Marrakesh.

Lovely little Riad in a brilliant location. The excellent manager Hasan and his staff were so friendly and helpful. We aranged 2 trips directly through them, one to the waterfall in The Atlas mountains and the other a Desert camel safari… both excellent value for money. Hasan also booked a traditional hammam (body scrub and massage) divine !!.

  10. Nick B

This is a lovely old Riad in the Medina, about a ten minute walk from Jemaa el-Fna square and all the other main sights/attractions (Palaces, Mosques, etc). The welcome from the staff, particularly Hassan, was great. We were given Moroccan tea and pastries whilst we checked in. They could not do enough for us and Hassan was so helpful, giving us hints and tips of where to go and places to see as well as calling and sorting a transport issue.
Riad Jonan is actually two Riad’s joined together. As you walk through, there are little lounge areas or places to sit and eat or relax. Our room was on the ground floor, next to the small plunge pool! There are more rooms on the first floor and a lovely terrace area on the second floor where you can sit and relax, sunbath on one of the sun beds or shade in a covered area. The staff will also serve you breakfast on the terrace or just a drink. There is free WiFi throughout the Riad although a little patchy in some areas.
We booked a Superior room and were allocated Jadida. There was a large double bed (a little hard for my liking) a small sofa and a fridge. There was also a small safe and an individual air conditioning unit in the room. The room and adjoining bathroom were all decorated in a traditional Moroccan style.
The breakfast was amazing! A choice of scrambled eggs/an omelette/cereal, etc as well as the usual bread and condiments, fresh orange and coffee.
We loved our stay at Riad Jonan and would highly recommend it.

I ended up flying in to Marrakesh a day early and the hotel that had been booked for me was full so I found this Riad in the Medina and stayed one night. I enjoyed it so much I wish I had stayed there for the whole week! The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The Riad was clean and had a lot of cool « public areas » to hang out including a gorgeous rooftop. It included breakfast which was also great. My room and bathroom were clean and the bed very comfortable. It is on the other side of the Medina from the main square which meant it was peaceful and quiet – which was important as I needed a good night sleep. I would highly recommend this Riad to anyone traveling to Marrakesh.

Choose this Riad as limited options with Avios (airmiles). I’m so glad we did. It is up a quiet little street and is beautiful inside and has a lovely private roof terrace. We stayed 5 nights and the staff Hassan and Abdul couldn’t have been more helpful. They both spoke excellent English enabling us to book all our trips before hand. The room was clean and the shower was good with plenty of hot water. We did eat one evening in the riad and the food was good traditional home cooked food. We did peer in the other upstairs rooms of which we had one and although a bit smaller and some without a tv (not an issue for us)we would of happily stayed in any.
Based on our experience would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again if we return

    Wonderful hospitality
From the moment you step into this Riad you are made to feel welcome. Hasan was the perfect host and very helpful with suggestions for a guide, day tours and local restaurants. This Riad also had plenty of separate spaces to relax including a small plunge pool, a roof top lounge area and a reading room.

    « Beautiful peaceful riad »
Lovely Riad, excellent facilities. Close to main area. Hassan (manager) brilliant , booked all our trips, up-graded us even though we were happy with our room. Couldn’t fault it and would definitely stay again.

« Everything we needed for a lovely stay »
Staying at Riad Jonan was one of the highlights of our time in Marrakech. The room was lovely (I think we had the most basic type, but the bathroom was fine and we had everything we needed). The breakfast was delicious (homemade yoghurt and Moroccan crepes, which you get everywhere but which were particularly good). Our host Hassan was very very helpful, told us everything that we needed to know and advised us on transfers etc, even though we were determined to go it alone!
The location is pretty good too, I don’t think you’d need to be much closer to the manic medina, and yet it is not so difficult to find. We used the Riad’s transfer from the airport, which is easiest when you don’t know where you are going, but after that navigating was simple. It is also very close to the Grand Taxi rank for trips South to the Atlas mountains, in case that is where you are going next.

« Beautiful, atmospheric riad with homely welcome »
What a wonderful, memorable stay. The moment we walked through the door we had a warm welcome which set the tone for our whole experience of Morocco. An aesthetically beautiful, calm place to relax after the hustle and bustle of the souks and the general buzz of the town. Hassan generously gave his time to help us plan our days, a marvellous host. A very big thank you to Hassan and his team.

    « A true Moroccan experience »
This is a truely fabulous authentic Riad home/guesthouse run by Hassan and his great staff. From the moment we arrived in Marrakech Hassan made our stay perfect. The taxi was waiting at the airport as agreed, he organised our trips with a super driver/guide call Smill. The breakfast on the rooftop was delightful, his recommendation of restaurants was good.
Thanks again for making a stay enjoyable.

    « Excellent customer-service and location »
We had a superior room – had everything we needed, including a very comfortable bed, warm quilt, well decorated, fridge, safe (no extra cost), hair dryer, plenty of warm water, clean towels every day.
An excellent manager and his small team – all very friendly and professional.
A beautiful Riad – breakfast on the roof top is lovely, with views of the High Atlas mountains in the distance – still with much snow during our visit. Breakfasts and the one evening meal we had (on arrival) were good. Portions in Marrakech aren’t large anywhere – so, for example, you may need to ask for more toast with breakfast.
Location is excellent – 10-15 mins. flat walk into the main square and souks. We used a taxi arranged by the riad manager from the airport (and back again) – the taxi can get to within 50 metres and the driver then walked us to the door – 150 dirhams. Its in a quiet alleyway where the only noise we were disturbed by was the local cockerel each morning. Once out of the alleyway the local street is typical Marrakech hustle bustle but felt very safe and welcoming with places to eat if you want to eat with the locals and there are other restaurants, some licenced, within 10 – 15 mins. walk (or by taxi from the local street if you prefer).
Hassan, the manager, arranged a driver for our day in the High Atlas Mountains – he was super and the day is one not to be missed – we had the pleasure of visiting a Berber market day as well as a demanding walk (1.5 hours) and a look round a Berber house. If you like walking, as we do, you can walk to the new part of Marrakech in about 40 minutes – no hills! Buy a Marrakesh guide book before your trip – we would have missed loads of tips e.g. good restaurants without ours. Wifi reception fine on the ground floor but a bit hit and miss elsewhere. I have no hesitation in recommending this riad to others.

    “Excellent Stay”
Spent a week here and had a really nice time. Riad in authentic Moroccan style, nice clean, comfortable en-suite room. Great breakfast, lovely roof terrace to relax on after the hustle and bustle of the markets. The team of staff were lovely and really helpful, and organised a trip for us to the Atlas mountains. I would recommend the transfer service offered as you may find it a bit tricky to locate the Riad Jonan if you were trying to find your way there for the first time.

    “Amazing stay in Marrakech”
An absolutely beautiful riad! The rooms are decorated in traditonal moroccan style, and they have a lovely rooftop. Great location and staff is so friendly, especially Hassan who will fix everything for you! I had dinner there one night and it was the best meal I had in Morocco. Its a great place to stay!

« Wunderschönes Riad, great Riad perfekte Gastgebe »
This Riad is perfect, the warm welcome with tea and sweets, the great advice from the hosts, the excursions which were recommended to us and we were able to see the private driver, were unique. The house is oriental stylish furnishings, the rooms furnished nicely differently. The terrace has plenty of space to relax and enjoy. The food is super also the breakfast. Great to use free wifi.
Frindly Team. The Riad is perfect, very central. Many interesting places in and outside the Medina may well visited on foot and thanks to the plan of Hassan, which everything is described, you find your way quickly. And after an interesting day you can enjoy the tranquility of this Riad. Somewhat wistfully we think of our last day of visit to the Hammam les bain de l Alhambra Marrakech, we had this visit should make early, then we could go 2 times. Something we have not seen the flying carpet of 1001 nights, but maybe you’ll see him. Have fun during your visit to Marrakech. Enjoy Riad jonan.

« Lovely Riad in Kasbah area of Marrakech with great staff! »
The staff at Riad Jonan are all lovely and helpful – they booked a Sahara trip, bus tickets and a hammam for me which made everything really easy and they were full of tips to help me get around Marrakech. It felt like they went out of their way to help which was really great. The Riad is in the Kasbah area which is much less touristy and only a 10min walk to Djemma al Frna, Koutoubia Mosque and around 15mins to souks – suited me perfectly. The room was clean and comfortable and they have a roof terrace as well for breakfast. I’d recommend having dinner there on one of the nights too, it’s 250DH (25euros) for three courses but really delicious tajine and it’s really nice to sit on the terrace. Breakfast was great – lots of food (breads, juice, coffee and a ‘hot dish’ usually an omlette or similar). Jyst the right amount.

« Vriendelijke riad in het centrum »
We waren hier met een pakketreis. Uiterst vriendelijke bediening; schone kamer. prima ontbijt.

The culture there is amzinag. You’ll see so much new and old contrasts, it is a lot to take it. You can have a great time in Marrakech without even sight seeing. Just wandering around, trying some of the cafe’s and restaurants and shopping in the souks. You don’t have to cover your head unless its part of your religion and beliefs. You should dress somewhat modestly, long sleeves, no cleavage and no miniskirts or short shorts. You’ll see people when you’re there dressed as if they’re going to a club and they get nicely harassed for it. If neither of you are Moroccan you won’t have a problem with the hotel room, from what I’ve read at least. If you have any doubts, call ahead and ask. You will want to see Djema Elfna Place, there is always live music and things going on, you can find fortune tellers, and you can get henna tattoos. You will encounter a lot of panhandlers and children trying to sell tissues and candies, but don’t let it get to you because many of them are out there by choice. Keep close tabs on your handbag if you carry one, or wallet because there are some kids that think tourists are there to support them and they’ll pick pocket you before you even realize what happened. It’s not something you should really worry about just make sure to use your common sense.. If you go by a Cash machine to withdraw money, don’t stand there counting it and don’t wave your money around and you will be good. You will notice that you don’t see couples in the street kissing and hugging, as in Islam they ideally don’t date . Locals can actually get arrested for this, especially if they’re not married so out of respect, you should probably leave that out of the public eye. You will be fine holding hands. If you meet anyone, its in their culture for women to kiss cheeks from right to left, so if you have someone try this don’t be scared. It is a very beautiful place and you can learn a lot in just a few days. If you have any doubts about how to act, you’ll see in a few days that you will be fine being yourself. Some people get offended by pointing and staring, some people get offended if you take their picture so try not to take a picture of individuals, you’ll be fine taking pictures of crowds and sights. It can be cold there in the winter, but if it’s hot you can wear tank tops and capri pants just as long as you’re not showing a lot of cleavage because a lot of the guys like to stare and harass women who dress like this, because in their culture women don’t dress that way so its something they find very sexy. If you tire of the Moroccan food or if you get craving for something like hamburgers there are a lot of snack shops which serve them, just make sure to read the menu carefully because their version of hamburgers is not always traditional American style. There are McDonalds and some other fast food restaurants, and there are supermarkets and actual stores, so if you want to look for anything that you can’t find at the souks or a food like crisps or cookies you can find them at the supermarket and corner shops, and you can find nice clothing at some stores in New Marrakech. When you walk around make sure you remember from which way you came, or know how to get back because the souks can be frustrating to find your way through. It’s ok to wear hats and things, not everyone speaks English so knowing any amount of French would benefit you. Aside from that, just enjoy!

    « Highly Recommended! »
Spent four nights in Riad Jonan and can’t praise the experience and Hassan and his staff enough. Walking down the narrow alley on arrival to the unassuming front door we wondered what we had let ourselves in for. However, once inside we were totally charmed by the Morrocan décor, tranquility and warm hospitality. The location is just perfect, close enough to the action but a welcome oasis of calm and Hassan is only too willing to give informed advice with no pressure. If you’re looking to spend some time in Marrakech you will not be disappointed with a stay in Riad Jonan.

« Great short break in a wonderful Riad »
Hassan & all the staff made our visit complete – from suggesting places to go & making the reservations it took all the pressure off. It seemed that nothing was too much to ask. The room was great and breakfast on the roof terrace a bonus. Would recommend the Riad with no hesitation what so ever.

« Delightful Riad with exceptional service »
My daughter and I stayed at Riad Jonan last week. The Riad is well located for a ten minute stroll to the main square, Souk and various places of interest. It is down an alley to the front door which gives no indication of what is inside. Cool interiors with authentic furnishings, a plunge pool and wonderful Morrocan tiles creating a beautiful interior. The roof terrace has loungers and shaded areas, perfect for meals, we enjoyed breakfast there one morning, with lovely home made yoghurt and fresh fruit. Hassan, the Manager was helpful even before we arrived, giving us information and booking a very good local tour guide the next morning. His staff were very helpful and we loved our stay there. We would definitely stay at Riad Jonan again if we visit again.

« Perfekter Urlaub bei perfekten Gastgebern! »

Salaam! Marrakech is a fascinating city, and there is plntey to do there. But since no one else has addressed your question about the mountains, here goes: you can see the Atlas mountain range in the distance, but it’s a bit of a drive! If you get outside the city, you should be able to see the mountains from just about anywhere (unless it’s a particularly bad weather day)! If you’re wanting to go actually into the mountains, you could go southeast toward Ouarzazate on the N9, which will take you through the Toubkal National Park you may not want to attempt this in December because there’s likely to be snow since it’s through the mountains, and the roads through there are extremely sharp and narrow and without any real protection from spilling over the cliff face if you go off the road. However, it is a spectacular drive!! You can also head toward the Mgouna mountain where you’ll also run into snow, but the roads aren’t quite as treacherous as going toward Ouarzazate even though you’re still technically going through Toubkal National Park. To go there, head in the direction of Azilal (east by northeast). There is a difference to consider, here, though because while you take the N9 all the way to Ouarzazate through the mountains, going toward Azilal and then finally toward Ait Bouguemmez, you’re not on main (highway) roads necessarily. Either way, you can get into the mountains within a couple of hours, and if you want to stay in a mountain village, I’d head for Imlil which is also in the Toubkal Park due south of Marrakech. It’ll also be treacherous to get to, but it’s spectacular if you’re looking for the mountain views, fresh air, etc!! Have fun!

    « Great staff »
Wonderful traditional riad in the middle of the old city. Staff were incredible and really helpful. Organised our tours, dinner reservations and gave great advice in general. They even got up at 5 am to cook us breakfast when we were the only ones up so early. Big thumbs up!

  34. Fay M

First night here and two more to go but I cannot fault the guys who run this place. Service is excellent and they are super friendly and helpful. The food is great, the location is fantastic and they couldn’t be nicer. I would totally recommend anyone wishing to visit Marrakech to stay here.

« Extremely helpful and friendly »
The riad helped make our trip much smoother than if we had attempted to plan everything ourselves. Everything was paid for up front (including airport transfer) which meant avoiding the pressures of haggling over price, which became wearing at times.

« Really nice place to stay! »
The stuff was really helpful. The room and the bath were clean and cozy. We liked the traditional decoration. It was possible to have breakfast on the roof. We could choose between different types of breakfast. It was freshly prepared for us. We would definitly stay there a second time.

    « incredibly helpful staff & a beautiful building. »
After a short walk up an alley way you get too a door that opens up to an amazing riad (intimate hotel) who welcomed us with opened arms. Made us feel relaxed after a long journey and gave us very helpful advise and guidance on what to do and what not to do.
The staff were always helpful and on hand if needed, they helped organise the trips we wanted to do and were always interested in our day and keen to offer advise if we wanted it.
It was a short walk from the centre of Marrakech and very easy to find. The area it is in was very friendly but not to touristy, so you could eat street food the locals had, if you wanted to, plus there was a lovely little bakery on the corner of the alley that did very nice pastries. Alternatively with in a couple of minutes you were in a tourist area with more traditional places to eat.
The riad was beautiful and very clean. The room we stayed in was gorgeous and came compete with small fridge and safe which was easy to use! Plus a lovely shower/en-suite.
